"1 Centavo, 5 Centavos, 10 Centavos, and 25 Centavos coins are usually considered worthless and insignificant by shoppers"

Inspired by the P 6, 658, 548.55 generated by the “Tulong Barya para sa Eskwela” project. Secretary of Education, Jesli Lapuz said on Friday that they would re-launch the project this year nationwide. The project got a boost from the Bangko Sentral Ng Pilipinas who said that they were able to save P8.2 million in minting cost just for this effort alone.

The amount in return was used by the Bangko Sentral Ng Pilipinas to purchase 510 units of personal computers for the Department of Education which will be distributed to several schools in the provinces. With this encouraging result, Secretary Lapuz said that their aim this year is to reach the target of P151.5 million.

Piggy banks will be placed within school vicinities where pupils can drop their spare change. Lapuz added, that this campaign would not only save our Mint more money but it would encourage our children to value these “lowly cents”.
